Activity Overview

To endure the most important contents from the live FH Highlights Symposium, held in New York City in May 2011, the National Lipid Association has partnered with Elsevier to create an open-access, journal-indexed Internet CME/CE activity, based on slide highlights.

Target Audience

This Journal CME activity is designed for a broader audience of healthcare professionals including lipidologists, cardiologists, endocrinologists, internists, primary care physicians, pharmacists, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, nurses, and registered dietitians.

Learning/Educational Objectives

Upon completion of this activity, participants should be able to:

1. Describe the prevalence and associated risk of familial hypercholesterolemia (FH) in order to increase awareness and understanding of the disease;
   
2. Describe the importance of universal screening during childhood and cascade lipid screening of family members of known FH patients;
   
3. Review management strategies to improve the care of patients with FH and reduce their elevated risk of CHD;
   
4. Evaluate the clinical effects, safety and efficacy data for current and new treatment options for FH patients;
   
5. Appraise treatment recommendations and evidence for screening, diagnosing and treating FH in both pediatric and adult patients (including women of childbearing potential and during pregnancy).
   

Criteria for Success
